History In August of 1962 the Faith Baptist Church of Pueblo, Colorado formed the Faith Baptist Mission of Denver, Colorado. Brother Harvey Bynum was called to lead the new congregation. During August and most of September, Sunday services were held at the Arapaho County Fairgrounds in a concessions building and a mid-week services were held in member's homes. The organization service was held September 28, 1962. The church covenant was read. The new church adopted the Orthodox Baptist Confession of Faith as their foundational beliefs. The charge to the fledgling church was brought by Jack Rushing, pastor of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Canon City. These 28 were charter members. Beginning September 30th, the church moved to the Westwood Lions Club building for Sunday services. On December 5th the church voted to purchase the property at 1305 S. Dale Ct. for a permanent meeting place, the money to be raised by selling bonds. This decision required that the church be incorporated. Through the incorporation process it was discovered that Denver had another Faith Baptist Church so the name was changed to Victory Baptist Church. As someone noted, "If we have come this far by faith, the rest of the way must lead to victory." Thus Victory Baptist Church was now formed. The first service held in the church's building was on February 24, 1963. Brother Harvey Bynum served Victory Faithfully as pastor till his retirement October 1973. The church then called Brother Charles C. Hays as pastor though he stayed only 14 months, it was a time of real blessing. The church then voted to call Brother Edwin Zellner as pastor in July 1975. Brother Zellner served Victory Baptist Church faithfully for the next 28 years till he retired in August of 2003. In that same month the Church called Brother Marcus Bellah as their next pastor. |
